VPP-software comparison

Hello, i am new with this forum. My name is edoardo and i am a student of aeronautical engineering at the University of "Roma Tre". I read a lot from this forum about commercial and non commercial vpp, i have also used the demo version of maxsurf span to evaluate a Beneteau First 38 S5. As the world is going open source i would try to use PCSAIL, and other similar softwares. Can you please send me the latest version of PCSAIL or post other opensource softwares that you know? it would be interesting to compare them with the same project and see the diferences.
Just to say, this is the documentation of the ORC vpp:
http://www.orc.org/rules/ORC%20VPP%2...ion%202009.pdf

Thank you very much, edoardo

If you really read this forum a lot, you should know that we here are only sailors or landlubbers but not pirates.

I'm sorry me but what you say is not clear to me: why "pirates"? i'm just talking of opensource or demo software and i'm talking about this in the appropriate section of the forum. I cite you:"Only shared knowledge can grow".
Thank you anyway. Best regards, Edoardo.

I think the point is that if it is truly "open source", then there are outlets available for obtaining the "latest version". If it's not open source, then you are asking your fellow readers of this forum to break the law to help you save money. Either way, it's an unfair position to put the members of this forum in.

You may have a look to:

If you are interested, I can give you some guidelines and help in preparing the model.

Edoardo,

You can download a VPP spreadsheet I made up for my own use here:

Why so secretive and in Italian. This looks like Maffia style to me. This is not the place to share any WAREZ as your Italean reply seems to be suggesting.

But above all if you are discussing VPP's then I am also highly interrested and an English reply that we can all understand would be highly appreciated.

no warez don't worry. I need a vpp for my final dissertation and I've found no one. So maiby I'll write one and if he's interested we can collaborate. Someone have work with SPAN? I'm trying it and I've some problems.

Surfer10,

Why are you planning to start from zero. Why not take Paul Kotzebue spreadsheet Vpp indicated above and improve on it( assuming this is ok with the author)? It will take you less time to finish the job and if you share it with us we will all learn something.

Good luck with your dissertation.

Auguri

Try PCSail, it's a free VPP spreadsheet (if you can manage to find a copy) with pretty good results

@Farjoe: an apology seems a bit over the top. I mentioned that the Italian reply seemed to sugest like a call for WAREZ only. In addition to this I find it quite rude to post in Italian on an English forum as over 90% of the visitors will not be able to read this post.

A collaborative Boatdesign.net VPP would be a great idea. This should be in Excel as many users can then contribute, validate and comment. There might be more people who can give input for this VPP to share the workload. How about this idea?

FYI I tried PCSAIL many years ago and I found it hard to use (or maybe I did not study the manual carefully enough).
