Single Hull IGES File for RoRo/Ro Pax

Hi,

does anyone knows where to get an example / template for a single hull fast ferry RoRo/Ro Pax? I need it to study how to divide the hull in multiple patches for better fairing.

Thanks,

Hardy

I know this may not be what you're looking for, but how about making it yourself? The problems with trying to fair a hull like that will only help you to understand the "patch fairing" solution better.
Sometimes you have to build something to realise how hard it can be.

Hi Steve,

I know, but maybe it is a lot easier to have some templates, since almost ship design never designed from scratch. I have read some papers about dividing the entire hull in small patches, but to me the most difficult part is the bulbous bow. Do you know any resources about it? Thanks for your reply.

regards,

hardy

The only applicable public domain hull lines I know of are published as part of U.S. Patent 5832856
http://www.delphion.com/details?pn=US05832856__
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-P...&RS=PN/5832856
(and in David Giles' prior patents, which are referenced by this one). I think Giles' claims are specific to vessels over 200 ft, leaving you free to use his hull shape for vessels under that length (61 meters).

For more on this vessel see: http://www.fastshipatlantic.com/inno...hipdesign.html
(Note: vessel does NOT have a bulbous bow.)

For a trade publication see:

What program are you using to do your design? The division of the surfaces into patches depends a lot on the capabilities of the software. You need to consider -

1. Are the surfaces limited in the number of control points in each patch?
2. Are the surfaces limited in the degree (i.e. stiffness) of the surface patches. For example, are the patches limited to being bi-cubic patches?
3. Does the system automatically constrain the boundaries between ajacent patches to be slope continuous?
4. Does the system support trimmed edges, or are discontinuities in the edges required to be formed by patch corners or multiple knots?

These factors will determine whether your hull is broken up into a large number of patches, or whether you can take a more global approach using only a small number of surfaces (a better solution in my opinion).

Hi,

I use Unigraphics NX2, it has shape studio for free form modelling. Is there more reading about how to divide the hull in small patches?
