Thanks Raggi_Thor, Do you have any experience or opinion about Maxsurf and it's modules? Would it take the place of going back and forth between 2-3 different programs?

Sorry, I haven't tried Maxsurf. I think we all dream of one program where we can do everything and that all parts of the model and the drawings are connected, so that when you change something all drawings and other data will be updated, but I think no one is there yet.

Microstation works I used Microstation to generate 3d models of 2 hull designs, however I drew them up using the Nautilus system (quite a few years ago). Autocad is fine for doing house plans.

Raggi - check out Pro/Engineer - it does all that, but the cost is a little high... ![]()

Well, I know Pro/E and it's in the same league as Solid Works, Inventor, Ideas and Slibre Design as far as I am concerned, you cant design boat hulls in theese programs, but you can use them for internal structure.

Raggi, Hmmm..... I don't think we are going to see something along the lines of Pro/Yacht until there is a LOT more money available to spend on such goodies. The number of designers is going to have to grow rapidly, as is the number and wealth of clients. I keep hoping, but not holding my breath. Steve

Well, one free alternative at the moment is FreeShip + Alibre Xpress (3D parametric solids). One low cost alternative is Rhino (with RhinoMarine?) + Alibre Design. You can use the surface of the hull and deck to trim or constraint the interio 3D solid model. It's not perfect, but changes in the hull design doesn't mean you have to do all the interior work again. I think there are some solutions for steel ships with all parts related to each other, like "Foran"?
