Ship Meshes

Hi guys,
now I am developing one c++ application for generation of boundary surfaces of the fluid domain before volume mesh generation. My application is ready so far, and I have to test it. But I don't have so many surface meshes of ship hulls. So far I've found only: Series 60 hull and kcs container ship hull. If someone has a mesh of any other ship and he doesn't mind to share it, I will be looking forward it.

Thanks in advance!

IMO, the most important hull to try is the DTMB 5415 destroyer hull. Two model hulls (3.048m and 5.072m) are being tested in over 30 towing tanks around the world.
A description and mesh can be found at:
http://www.gothenburg2010.org/dtmb5415.html
See the bottom of the geometry page for meshes.

Good luck!
Leo.

Thank you Leo, but I have problems in making a one continuous mesh from these models ... / maybe I am not so experienced in Rhino /. If someone has meshes like this I presented as an attachment, please share

Thanks again!

edit: I succeeded ... I attach the mesh I made

edit2: Do you have some more ideas for ships ... ?

As first exercises, I would try:
1. Sphere
2. Parabolic strut
3. Wigley hull
4. NPL series hull

Then see if the volumes and surface areas match the analytic values for 1 and 2, and the published values for 3 and 4.

Good luck!
Leo.

Thanks again Leo, I will include this in my paper too. In fact can you tell me from where I can find some technical or any other kind of information about this models? I mean for:
KCS,DTMB 5415, KVLCC, Series60, NPL, because I want to explain more about them in my paper ...

Thanks in advance!

I digged in the depths of my HDD and found the following papers that might be of some help:

"An Analysis of the Series 60 Results - Part 1", Sabit 1960 (PDF, 5.8 Mb)

"Series 64 Resistance Experiments on High-Speed Displacement Forms", Yeh 1965 (PDF, 2.1 Mb)

"The NPL Round Bilge Displacement Hull Series", Bailey 1976 (PDF, 8.5 Mb)

For some reason the direct attachment of the files to this post didn't work...

Sorry, I accidently exceeded the permitted capacity of my (free) webspace - that's why it was blocked.

I deleted lots of stuff and now it should work again.

Apologies for the inconvenience caused...

OK, I'll try to attach the PDFs to this post to avoid the everlasting problems with exceeding traffic on my webspace.

Edit: Seems to work at last. Don't know why it didn't in the first place...

Note that there are several misprints in the hull offsets given in Table 2 of the
NPL paper (and in the examples in Freeship and Delftship and many other places).
Some people don't plot their data before using it!

You need to hunt for the corrected offsets (e.g. see Michlet or Flotilla).

Leo.
