Recommendation software for resistance prediction??

Got any trial version of free software to predict the fishing boat resistance?

I can start giving you the theoretical lecture, but I would have to look it up too!So, here are some usefull threads that deal with hull resistance and software and what's it all about!

Hull speed
questions about wave resistance and form factor
Naval Architecture calculations
Hull Resistance
Calculation of wave resistance and potential flow.
Mathematical Q. about theoretical max boatspeed...

Good luck

Try:
www.cyberiad.net/michlet.htm

Thin-ship theory is generally used for hulls with a length-to-beam ratio greater than about 7, but recent work suggests that it can give good estimates for L/B as low as 4.

Hi Thong

What type of fishing boat resistance are you looking for? I have just finished the design of a commercial tuna fishing boat, and the resistance prediction methods changed throughout the design depending on the parameters of the vessel.

There is work done by Compton for semi-displacement fishing vessels, or more generally you may find some use in looking at Holtrop or Van Oortmerssen that will provide you with a basis.

Don't bother using any regression models that don't lie within the range of parameters that your fishing boat possesses.

The Hullspeed program has both Holtop and Van Oortmerssen methods, along with Savitsky, Fung, Latiharju and several other. It can read a hull shape directly from Maxsurf, or take numerical values as inputs.
