Quick hull in Rhino

OK Here goes!
This sequence assumes some basic knowledge of Rhino - the Snaps, Ortho, curves etc. Almost all of the commands used here come from the standard bar on the left. A free evaluation of rhino is available here: http://www.rhino3d.com/download.htm - you get 25 saves and they dont want your age and shoe size before they let you download!

If you download now you will get V3 which is essentially the same but looks a little sexier!

NB: I am just a sailing Rhino addict with little design talent and only a very basic knowledge of the principals of yacht design (mostly picked up from this forum!) So my apologies if the hull in the tutorial looks to you like a bathtub ! (also sorry about the numerous speeling mistuks!)

The sequence we are going to go through is as follows:

plan deck shape and (in this case) straight transom
profile of bow and hull bottom
sheer line
max beam line
Rough surface
lines plan
editing and seam smoothing
lofting surface
hydrostatics

After this you can use the basics to form a transom and if enough people like this, the next stages are deck,cockpit, keel, rudder, mast, rigging, interior.....

The idea is a quick and dirty way to get a boat on screen using basic principals.

Plan and transom, First draw a line from 0,0,0 out to the right as a centerline! - Make sure your curves are snapped to this line (Near)

Lift the transom edge at the same time as the deck edge...

Note that the 0 Axis line is the waterline.

Create a rough hull shape at the maximum beam and the transom - ignore the bit about the extra point we will deal with it differently...

This is a good way to get regular station lines, if you want to place them by hand dont bother with the array and project shown here, use "Extract isoparm" from the "curve from object" button, if it wants to extract the horizontal instead of the vertical change u to v or vice-versa in the command line. And make as many lines as you want.
