Hi again.
I am an expert ShipConstructor user and also have a good working knowledge of Cadmatic, which we use in our group.
Star.Love91, I think you have no direct working experience with ShipConstructor, because what you say about ShipConstructor is not correct. So, while I agree that Cadmatic is certainly a good program, let me correct your opinions (which are obviously not facts):

- ShipConstructor models never had any size limits (also see other replies in this post). The max 80m idea is a dishonest fantasy of some dishonest people.
- ShipConstructor always created highly customizable isometric sketches, including material lists.
- ShipConstructor generates materials list automatically, directly from the model and the database (for structure, pipe, hvac, equipment, etc.), including fully integrated assembly sequence drawings and material lists with all of the above included (complete, detailed arrangement drawings).
- ShipConstructor output has always supported export to txt, xls, rtf, etc. file formats, not just Excel.
- ShipConstructor communicates with many programs in many ways, one being the direct interface between its SQL database and other databases, also thanks to its API.
- ShipConstructor applies insulation penetration packages, accessory packages, etc. automatically during modelling, directly from the user-defined database specificaton Penetrations are automatically apllied to structure parts.

In addition to the above, the ShipConstructor GUI is based on the AutoCAD standard (which also the Cadmatic users end up using), and offers a truly integrated environment collecting Structure, Pipe, HVAC, Equipment, etc., as opposed to the static model interface between Cadmatic and Nupas (or other programs).

So, while once again I will agree that Cadmatic is a good program, and that it has a proven track record in the plant industry (like other programs such as PDS, PDMS, etc.), I invite you to contact the ShipConstructor office in Singapore for a presentation, so that you may get to know today's state of the art ShipConstructor correctly.

Finally, thank you for this opportunity to exchange technical data wrt ShipConstructor and Cadmatic, always interesting and constructive !

:-)

ShipConstructor nesting: more info please

Hi star.love91,

can you give more details about the question on Nesting you posted on March 3rd, please ? I am not familiar with RK and his posts.

For reference, ShipConstructor solids are built on the fly as needed, for display or output, using custom objects.
AutoCAD solids are made from ShipConstructor objects by "exporting" -this means that they are made using AutoCAD objects, from AutoCAD's ACIS graphic library, and disconnected from the ShipConstructor database.

ShipConstructor Nest does not use solids.

Thank you.

May I ask whether today you are using the (very old) ShipConstructor 2008 r4.x or the current ShipConstructor 2011 version ?
