| This ties in with another discussion in the forum about symetrical hulls. My opinion is that the main flaw in the system is that it doesn't take into account water flow. Water flows at an angle to the centerline which changes with sailing conditions. That also produces low and high pressure areas that this systen doesn't adress.

| I agree with You this discussion belongs to the other forum, but obviously it borders on the method that involves in my program SHDM. By the way, leeway angle is a matter of the keel and the rudder also, and so far SHDM do not solve this. I would like to repeat the question and the answer from the site www.kus.hr When and why use the KUS-SHDM application? KUS-SHDM should be comprehended as developmental tool for designing the sailing boat hull at the beginning of the hull design, because of his contributing the hull with symmetrical water lines in conditions of the different heel angle. If a designer wants to have a such shape of the hull, he will certainly use the KUS-SHDM application because all of the other software has no that understanding built in. |

It is easy to convert KusSHDM´s hull, that is AutoCAD DWG file, to Rhino NURBS surface. In first picture are shown the Kus-SHDM stations imported to Rhino as DWG file. To get a surface of the hull, from SURFACE pull-down menu choose Curve Network and select all from first picture. In second picture you can see net in shaded mode. |

| A quick question: what is the lcb and lcf of the hull on the drawing you just posted? From appearance it looks a bit too far aft. -Jon |

| Kus-SHDM is based on SWL method and one of the input data is BasedWaterLine (BWL). The Based Water Line is a line that have sailing yacht on condition of sailing, under loading respectively and that line is defined by a hull designer. Of course the shape of the BWL determined the shape of the hull among other things. At heart Kus-SHDM recommend the certain shape of the sailing hull based on input data, but you can do experiments with varing them. That shape could be reformed after the Kus-SHDM procedure by other CAD softwares such as Rhino, Maxsurf .. |
