What is the best nesting program/software for ship and boat design?

    Thanks.

Nesting software is pretty much the same regardless of the program, automatic nesting is oftered by some but I've never found it to be better than a good human operator.

There isn't much point opimising nesting for marine production as everything is flat metal (or wood) at this stage.

The only thing to call between them is your prefered operating methods (and cost) - a few offer interesting features but only you would know if you'd use them.

Consider using MyNesting. Most nesting software packages are very expensive. However, the MyNesting software itself is free. Running the program is also free. You are charged each time you download a result, and the cost of downloading a result is very low, just a few dollars per job. The program is net-based, so you need internet access.

A few dollars can quickly add up, but that depends on the level of through-put you require, it's an easy sum to make.

If you're not actually coding any CNC files you can nest (on a very basic level) in any CAD software. If your cutting then is done by a contractor then they can write their own CNC-code from your dwgs/dxfs.

If you're cutting in-house then the supplier of your CNC unit can likely recommend what works best with your system.

If you use Rhino there is a program out there named RhinoNest. I don't know much about it though.

As ever people looking for an easy way where you can just push a button without too much thought or learning and it will just do it for you.
Can i ask why did people need to go through 5 or 4 year apprenticeships with low wages tough learning when now you can just push the magic button and hey presto it all rolls out perfect ever time all neatly nested with your eyes closed.

If you are nesting metal then look into how the nest is optimised. Most work on minimising wasteage. But sometimes the $/kg can vary depending on sheet size. Pronest is the only one I know of that can be set to optimise based on total cost. Depending on sheet prices it is possible that the cheapest nest may not be the one with the least waste, especially at times when suppliers are selling odd sized sheets cheaply.

Why would you use your hand to drive a nail when you can use a hammer?

Nesting software is just a tool, like any tool, and if it does a good job with the "push of a button" and saves a few hours why wouldn't you use it? Or at least ask if it was available like he did.

In order have a more good material utilization for complex parts, we developed a new nesting algorithm. It would be a really true shape nesting tool and can meet higher requirement. It can nest on any shape of material (import material from DXF/DWG file) even there are holes in it. It would be a good assist tool for many applications like wood, cloth, sheet metal, glass, leather, etc. You can use the nesting result for laser, plasma, waterjet and other cutting or router machine.

In the final stage before release, we are looking for Beta customers who are interested in nesting software and like to try new tool in their work. All Beta customers would receive a license file without any limitation (full function and permanent). We hope to hear more first-hand suggestions and feedback for you.

Please send us email support at nestprofessor dot com with note of your business application and machines.
