Importing IGES to Rhino & Rendering

I'm sure this has been asked before, but a quick search has failed to turn anything up, so please forgive the repetition....

When I import surfaces - usually just hull shell - into Rhino as IGES surfaces, they are very "blocky" when rendered.

How can I fix this?

Go to Rhino Options and select Mesh options. Change the mesh options to smooth and slower and see if that fixes your problem.

Thanks,
-Steve

If Steve's suggestion doesn't give you satisfactory results, try

File/Properties/Mesh
Tick Custom in Render Mesh Quality
Adjust - Max Edge Length & Max Distance, Edge to Surface.

But beware - these numbers are in the same units as your model. If you are working in mm, for instance, and you set the above to 1, Rhino will try to make the distances between meshes <1mm. This will slow things down DRAMATICALLY.
I find it's best to check the render out, then reset to a higher value until you've finished modelling, then reduce it down again to give better quality once you've finished.

You might also want to look at this web page. It contains some useful information on meshing:

Mat-c,

You may not be able to do anything about it, the reason behind is that the surface defintion is not good in that area, changing the meshing property is not useful. You can modify the surface, turn the control points on (under the menu <edit> or f10), you can see control points net, try to adjust the control point is one way of modifying the surface definition.

good luck.
