implementing a cad system

It's a hard thing to tell.
In my opinion you need a powerfull 3D modeling and engineering suite like Solid works which is economical and sufficient.

SW has plenty of export and import possibilities and what is important to me, it is becoming an industry standard. That means efficient communication with 3rd parties, reduction of mistakes by translation etc. You have your analysis tools too, and sufficient file management system for your group of people.

Downside is the poor surface modeling capabillity. UG is an expesive option, but I guess if you are used to it, you want nothing else.

 

Alibre Design looks a lot like SolidWorks and Inventor, it's a 3D parametric solid modeller and it's very easy to use. Alibre reads Rhino files directly and there is even a plugin so the two programs can work together.
Alibre + Rhino costs about one third of SolidWorks.

 

Mastership is indeed based in holland (eindhoven) (see http://www.mastership.nl) but has support centers all over the world. It is most definetly not the same as shipconstructor.

I have worked with mastership for about 5 years (although the last time was some 8 year ago) and made hull expansions and structural parts with it for more the 40 different yachts and other vessels (ranging from 30ft sailingyachts to 150 meter roro's), and i don't think it is losing any traction at all in the field.
