| How to model exactly 3D wing (NACA series) for hydrofoil in CATIA? Hi all, You can share with me how we could design 3D wing such as NACA 2410 for hydrofoil in CATIA software? Because I want to calculate CFD in fluent and stress and strain in ANSYS 11.0. In my way, I define many sections of wing, then I use multi-sections solid in Part Design in CATIA to model 3D wing. How about your experience? Thanks for your share! Tuan Shipland tuanshipland@gmail.com |

| am designing a 7 m cruising beach cat and its folding system. It has a central longitudinal beam supporting the cross beams.(It is easier for a trimaran since the main hull acts as the central longitudinal beam). I would like to explore the possibility of hydrofoils placed at the bow and stern of the longitudinal beam? Since a cruising cat should not list at more than 10°, I was thinking to "hang down" the dagger board, foil cases and rudder on the same beam. The foils will not be to lift the cat off the water but at speed >10 knots to stabilize it, reduce pitching, decrease wetted area and hopefully increase speed. Except the rudder , any foil appendix (including the foil at the base of the dagger board) could be lifted in its case (at low speed) and neatly tucked under the longitudinal beam between the 2 hulls. Will the increased wetted surface and drag of the foils will be compensated by a profitable lift gain? I m not sure. Is the idea possible? The space between the folded hulls is about 800 mm at the center and 1500 mm front and rear. Displacement of the cat will be around 700 Kg, sail area around 30-34 m2. I would appreciate your help. |

The information I gathered is that hydrofoils are designed for a narrow speed range, are useless at low speed, very expensive to design if you hire a specialist (160 US$/ hour..no fixed global estimate). Yes I will use NACA 600 series for rudder and dagger board.I also have as a reference, plans of trimarans I bought 2 years ago: Ian Farrier's folding F-22 and Paolo Bissol demountable Tritium 720. As a conclusion, I will wake up from my "hydrofoil fantasy" and use as everybody else does, dagger boards and keels (build 2 prototypes). |

I really like F-22 model. You can see more on http://www.f-boat.com/pages/trimarans/F-22.html Can you share images of your model in this topic? (dagger board and rudder) Keep in touch! |

| My computer can not read you image in .doc, it need Quick Time to decompressor, so you can send me file .pdf or file .jpg. In addition, you have coordinate NACA 600 in file.txt or file.DAT ? Otherwise, I google the NACA 600 but I dont see NACA 600 series. Hic ^^ ...I will try to simulate NACA wing in fluent for you! Then I upload it for you. Keep in touch!! TuanShipland |
