How to get an idea onto paper?

I have an idea for a 32 foot offshore boat. It is perfect in my head. Unfortunately I am so far unable to show the inside of my head to people!

I am no artist. I have no design skills.

What is the best way you can suggest for getting this thing out of my head and onto paper?

hmm... providing you want to share your idea words is one way.
most of us can, if we try, work with squared paper, profile, top and frontviews allready gives lots of insight.
32 offshore, perfect in your head, common, tell me more, perhaps, when having my head empty...

It was one possibility.

What I see is like a three stepped hull, like the B24, but with a more agressive final step, and flatter V on the last step for better straight line. The bow is a very sharp V, with an anti-stuff flare like in the sunseeker XS. This flare dissappears into the hull which is more V24 than bladerunner, but flatter on top - more like the bladerunner, but with no distinction between hull and top. Finally wings. Sortof reminicent of the 'Earth Challenger' high, but swooping downwards, like a paper aroplane made with too big a sheet of paper. But not ending with the sponsons like the bladerunner or earth challenger, but not short and stubby and horizontal like the V24.

The extra 8 foot is made up from 2 foot longer rear pad, 1 foot longer each airation pad, and four foot longer nose.

The nose has also got a less steep 'rise' from the sea to the nose tip. ie a gentler curve, but with a harsher V in that first part of the boat. The anti stuff flare is quite high on the deck, so is usually out of the water.

Canopy is similar to the B24, but gentler curved front glass area, and steaper sides, with the rear section curving downwards like a wing profile, hopefully providing a aerodynamic attribute of the canopy. The canopy from the top is dewdrop shaped, incorporating the engine hatch.

Seating is two plus one. This is because the boat is 8 foot longer, but only 2.5 foot wider. The gap between the front seats is space for the legs of the third crew mate, as the seats are almost 3 side by side, but more squashed, so the third seat is 1.47 foot back and behind the others.

Dual drive controls for the front two, who are both drivers, rear is the navigessor, with the navigation equipment.

ok, i can sort of see it now too. sharp fwd V, wider and steeper V aft,
say a bit hollow keel line
no porpoising, boat level, beter propulsion, it makes me think a bit of the ASD design and yes i like the idea
those steps however aint easy and need design and testing
comparing the nicer canopy's i'll do later in a deeper search

dont say you've got no skil couse i like that idea very much and really wonder why nobody havent thought of or done it before...

I will post what I have regarding the hull and canopy. I am now looking at the recommended software, and hopefully will be able to get something out, but I cant seem to be able to design steps in the programs I am using.

I have a lot of very very rough stuff. I will re-draw this as best I can and post it. Probably Wednesday.

If you manage to draw some frames/stations at the correct location Rhino will let you loft a hull in portions and then make the step(s).

A little air time?
The first the bloke knew of me was the white wash from the hidden wave I hit just before overtaking him! He thought the race was over, and coasted to the finish line, I was well behind him, and going flat out to catch up.

You can just see the start/finish boat in the video - it is the dodgy looking RIB. If he had continued at anything near race speed, I would have come in second.

It was nice, as my friends were there making the video, and it was the first race they saw, and my first win...

whatever happened to that great bladerunner you had before, sold it?

those V24 boats are flying and a quik google learns its a one design boat type rage so i dont think altering to much is within the holy rules

Completely loverly boat. Still the best I have ever driven, and the most fun out on the water. Unfortunately the V24 class has dwindled from 13 boats in 2004 to four in 2006. The RYA points sytem is also rubbish - you get points for startingthe race( 324 points )and only 400 for winning!. I won 9 out of 12 races, but finished 3rd overall, The winner was a consistent second place, with two wins!

I also set the British National speed record for the class, but I dont want to race against 2 other boats in 2007, So I am looking at another class of boat. So I am re-engining the boat from the 330Hp standard up to 650Hp, and placing it in the 'hotboat 600' class of racing. It should do really well there, with awesome power to weight ratio.

I still have the Bladerunner. She is a bit of a dog if the sea gets anything except calm. Currently I have the outboards off ( 2x300 promax ) and replacing them with a DPX drive and a 750 Hp V8. Also looking at an anti stuff nose and some water deflectors She should be good for 100mph after the refit. She does 78mph with the 560Hp from the outboards. We are also stripping all the interior, and replaceing it with carbon pannels, and moving the fuel tank from front to back. It will be a better boat, but still a compromise on my end 'design' - but she will be an experimental step in the direction I want to go. Nothing like playing with a full sized ocean going test bed right?

1) Stepped Hulls are overrated, just balance the boat on the prop, no boat touching the water - less drag.

2) Some lamination issues when you drive the boat like a hooligan in the rough. But hooligan driving wins races!

3) The real reason why I win races. My Navigessor weighs 40kg.....
