GZ curve

Hi,

I have modelled a hull in Maxsurf Demo version, and would require to extract its GZ curve. Unfortunately in the Demo, or the academic version, this is not a feasible option.

Is there a FREE software that I can develop the GZ curve after being imported from Maxsurf?

Thanks

Steve

I suppose you could try ArchimedesMB ( http://naval-architecture.co.uk/ ). As with all computerized analysis, the GIGO rule applies (garbage in, garbage out) - the analysis won't mean much until you take the time to go through the program and figure out exactly what each parameter and option means.

Hi,

Thanks for your help. But how can I import the model I have already drawn from Maxsurf? Is there a particular format?

Thanks

Steve

ArchimedesMB can read GHS files, which I believe Maxsurf is capable of generating.

Hi,

Apparently, Maxsurf only reads (imports) a file of GHS format.

Thanks

If u did it in Maxsurf academic ,,, save it as 3d IGES or rhino 3dm ..
now open it in rhino and Save it as GHS format to load in Archimedes..
i assume u have rhino.

Hi all,

I did all you said, and I did import it in Archimedes. But I only managed to extract the KN curves not the GZ curve... What am I doing wrong?

thanks

You are practically there.
The Kn curves are the stability curves for a VCG height of zero.
For each heeling angle phi subtract VCG*sin(phi) to obtain your righting lever GZ, so GZ=KN-VCG*sin(phi)
