Freeships lines ?

I would like to take a set of lines from FREESHIPS down to Staples and
have then printed out to a scale of 1/2" to the foot . What would be the best way to do ?

Convert to pdf

Use "Free Pdf" it acts like a virtual printer and can convert to scale.

Though I am not aware that you can print anything but the "linesplan" in Freeship without going through a cad program.

That could work, I will try it. But understand I will be doing this at the local copy shop and have to deal with their help. My intention is to trace the lines and draw manually on them ,
them convert back to a cad program . Maybe this is a waste of time , but I miss drawing with a pencil.

No Frank.

Download the program (it is freeware) and install it. It will appear in all your applications as a additional printer when you push the "print" button.
You are asked then if the "printout" shall be to scale or just the screen. It does not really print any page, but produces a pdf file of the right dimensions instead.
Now you can go to the next copyshop and have a printout to any size you like.

Clear?

Richard's method should work fine for you. I've not worked with Freeship but if possible it's worth including a square of known dimensions in the lines as it doesn't take much for a copy-shop or printer to mess your scaling up.

If you've got the square clear and visable to one side it can be easier to check the dimensions off that rather than checking the lines themselves. Though if your frame spacing is shown and is a good size, then that's a good checking point too.

Eitherway, worth checking it's right before you do a load of work by hand on it.

freeship can export plates to printer, plotter and dxf
so although an interesting option, dont think you have to go true a pdf

How? (except for dxf which requires a cad prog.)

when printing or plotting from freeship a scale menu pops up but i only folded some printpaper a4 boats, bigger sizes better be try'd before printing srinkfree film
btw 2d vector pdf is a neat trick, 3d pdf's are develish accurate also. lets hope to hear more from those who actually used freeship to build real boats

I did not ask for any program Yipster,

I wanted to learn how you print in Freeship? Apart from the linesplan I did not find a print button.

if you want to print perspective views or the like (= actual views from the four different windows): Right click in that particular window -> "Print".

Before printing profile, plan, or bodyplan view there appears a pop up menu where you are asked to enter the print scale; a print from the 3D view will be scaled automatically to your paper size.

Manchmal sind die Dinge eben doch leichter als man denkt.........

I never print anything from Freeship, just use it for fairing lines.

and it is easiest for the copy shop. I will let you know how it works out .

Have used it with no problems up to A0 format, and I printed out a entire Container Port that way (from my CAD), for a presentation.
The advantage is, that every copy shop in the third world can do you a cheap printout when need be.

Lets see how yours works.

You need "Ghost script" too, to make it work.
