"FreeShip" or similar running natively on OS X?

Are there any free hull design programs (or very low cost) that run natively on OS X?

I have an intel based MacBook with 2.1Ghz processor and a gig of ram.

I was thinking about trying to compile FreeShip on this machine, but figured I should probably put my efforts into designing boats rather than figuring that one out!

Anyone using OS X natively?

I am using OS X natively. I also have Parallels with XP.

I have not been able to get Michlet and Godzilla to run consistently under Parallels.

The Rhino for Mac is pretty darn good, high quality software.

I am just starting to play with jSDN, and thus far its flawless.

I had poor results with TouchCAD. Too many crashes for me, YMMV.

While Freeship is really, really good at what it does well, it seemed very hard to do anything other than hull shape. I ran it with Wine, a windows emulator. I have not tried it again with Parallels.

HOWEVER, I'm just screwing around at this point, learning different ways of designing in 3D.

Yes, TouchCAD runs both on Mac and Windows. Not a freeware though.

The picture is a quick sketch I did yesterday, recreating an old design in 3D. Done on an iMac.

thanks!
so I downloaded the demo .....
it goes down to 10.3!
but hadn't tried it out yet .....
seems there're quite the learning curve ahead!
the instructional video should help?

but they don't have a USA distributor?
and I can't find a price for it.

On the other hand,
Rhino is building their software native to 10.7,
so once caught up in hardware might be the way to go?

Can anyone give a quick comparison between Rhino and TouchCad?

There is no such thing as native 10.7 though TouchCAD certainly works very well on 10.7. It's not only one instructional video, there are many hours of it, many found here:

The reason is of course that you don't just design the hull and a few other panels in it, you design pretty much all panels. You also keep track of weights, center of gravity vs the center of buoyancy, prepare it for production with unfolding and nesting, and so on.

thanks Claes.
from the sounds of it you are with the company?
could you direct me to a USA distributor?

I'll be getting into all of this gently as I'm not a professional marine architect/engineer.

I will however be designing and building my own personal canoes and kayaks for trips and racing, and also small beach style catamarans for my own use, again for trips and adventure racing.
