Freeship/Hydronship Shaft Inboard/Outboard Turn Calcs Request

Hi Victor,

Is it feasible or worthwhile to create a module for estimating/predicting propulsuion powers/forces/resistance calcs for inboard-turning shafts vs outboard turning shafts?

I read a SNAME paper from around 1992 discussing the early DD-963 problem of imbalanced gas turbines, or about them not keeping the same commanded RPMs/shaft speed when making turns, losing headway, heaving or pitching too much, and so on. A graph showed that in certain turns, an inboard shaft may experience different amounts of torque than the outboard shaft, depending on whether the shafts are inboard or outboard.

This prompted me to ask you if it it would useful feature to have an ability to estimate for such plant configurations. I imagine though that rudder placement, shaft diameter, angle, depth from surface, angle, presence or absence of keel fins or active fin stabilizers, rolling, and more would impact the results.

Thanks!

BTW, for other readers, some other things I ran across related to combatants powering/shafts/etc., are:

Good readings. The primer on ship vibration is really well-done.

Another one (probably seen here already, in other threads) is a Marin Report story about Holtrop & Menin

http://www.marin.nl/web/Publications...ort-2010-1.htm

It is in report 100:

"Holtrop-Mennen founders reveal the secret of method’s long-lasting success"
