I use Delftship 3.1. Last time Manie was here he said he is using Deldtship 3.2 and that my 3.1 displays more stuff than his.

Just downloaded 3.2 and it looks almost as if they did scale down on some things, possibly to convince users to buy the more functions... ?

What features are you missing in 3.2 that were available in 3.1?

3.1 has friction, residual power and total and indicates hp. The Kaper has a seperate graph.

3.2 shows the delft series resistance (one graph) and Kaper on the same graph. Delft in this case is only resistance.

3.2 does seem to have other features 3.1 does not have.

I haven't spent much time on 3.2 though, will as soon as there is a bit of time.

Version 3.2 indeed has a new resistance module which is designed to show various methods in one report and graph. It's also correct that HP is not shown, but it's easily calculated by multiplying the resistance with the speed. By showing all results on the same page/graph it's easy to compare various methods. I consider this an improvement.

There should NOT be less functionality in 3.2 compared with 3.1.

Marshmat,

Your English seems better then mine
How do you interpret section 2.b of the GPL license?

Quote:
2. You may modify your copy or copies of the Program or any portion of it, thus
forming a work based on the Program, and copy and distribute such modifications
or work under the terms of Section 1 above, provided that you also meet all of
these conditions:

a) You must cause the modified files to carry prominent notices stating that you
changed the files and the date of any change.

b) You must cause any work that you distribute or publish, that in whole or in
part contains or is derived from the Program or any part thereof, to be licensed
as a whole at no charge to all third parties under the terms of this License.

It means you may modify the program

You must indicate the changes that was made to it and have a date the changes was made on it

The changed program must be made available to whoever wants it so it remains freeware

Contact gpl at https://lists.gpl-violations.org/mailman/listinfo/legal

Did you send a letter to
Jo Anne Casey
Shuttle Systems
40 / 7 Kelvin Hart Drive
Botany Downs
Manukau, Auckland 2013
New Zealand

? It looks like she used to work for an educational institution (Howick Primary School) not far away from address above (babydreamers.net), could have higher morale than Andrew. Owen Casey could very well be the father, considering that all the addresses are nice houses in expensive neighbourhoods, I bet that a few letters to the neighbours would make him and Jo Anne really ****** off

Save .mht files (web archive, single file) with the pages that violate gpl / should carry info that they don't

Good Luck

Martijn,

I'm not a lawyer. But the GPL was designed (very carefully, by some of the software world's best lawyers) to be readable without lawyers.

I believe you are looking at GPL v2.0, of which sec. 2 (b) ought to be interpreted exactly as it is written. If a piece of software contains or is based on GPL-licensed code, the entirety of the software- both object and source- must be provided, free of charge, to anyone who asks for it. You can charge for support, training, etc. but not for the program itself.

Under GPL v3.0 sec. 5 and 6, the intent is the same but the wording is somewhat more complex. It is my interpretation that the source code must still be provided free of charge (or, if on a physical medium, for a charge no greater than the cost of burning and mailing the CD). The big changes in v3.0, that I know of, are the addition of a near total ban on "tivoization" (the use of modified free software in a device, such as a DVR, that will shut down if you try to modify the software yourself) and much tighter controls on patent issues (to try to prevent another Microsoft-Novell disaster).

I seem to recall that Freeship was released under v2.0, I can't recall if there was provision in it for "or any later version".

Payment website.

Martijn,

Have you had any discussions with the payment website operators? They might be interested to know the nature of one of their users. Perhaps they would be concerned about GPL violations as they are indirectly involved.

What is that term? Accessory after the fact?

Good luck and thanks for a great product!

3DboatDesign software fraud

Hello,
I'm a designer living and working in Italy. I already purchased the excellent DELFTShip Pro software but I admit I'm pretty curios and when - while purchasing some books on Amazon.UK - I noticed a banner advertising the new 3DBoatDesign software, I decided to give it a look.

I found immediately the images were from DELFT, however DELFT was never mentioned on their web pages, I sent them an email and got the answer ensuring me the software wasn't DELFT and it was a fully legal and fully useable software.

Due to the bargain price I decided to give it a try, but ... surprise .. it turned to be just DELFT free software under a different name but with the same features. Well, after that I made my research on the web and found these posts ...
Whow .. now I feel very good, and very stupid too.
Why didn't I check it earlier ?

However, I already emailed to the seller inviting them to refund my money back and - at the same time - I also emailed to the OnLine Bank (clickbank.net) and to PayPal Anti Fraud service to aler them.

I'm very determined to give this fraudolent activity the maximum publicity and to inform all the institutions and authorities some how connected or related to the seller's environment, address, jurisdiction and so far.
I don't know if I'll be able to actually get my money back but I'll surely do my best to make their life as much complicated as I can.

Following here I attach their email on which they ensured the product was not DELFT.

Martin, if your actions may get any benefit from my own, please feel free to contact me and I'll be more than happy to support.

Paolo

here their email follows:

As far as I'm aware the GNU license state that even if you change alter or modify the software that it cannot be sold.

The reason is that they have laid the basis for the software and it is exactly to prevent fraud, which is when someone modifies it to some extent and then sells it.

Pavel,

Thanks!! That was actually very helpful...
I've downloaded the software, and I immediately noticed that the reference to the GPL license was removed from the about window. So there he's violating the GPL license...... (and in other places too)

Right now I'm contacting the developers of some of the other open source programs he's selling to se if we can team up.

One other thing Pavel. As a client you are entitled to obtain the source code of the open source software. Could you make a request to him to obtain the code? I'd very interested to find out which modifications (apart from the splash screen) he made and I can (and will) certainly use that in my following email to him. Also, is the software shipped with the GPL license? It's not included in the links you've provided.
