Received an email announcing a new entry-level free program so I am copying that email here for those who may be interested:

I am publishing a free software application for hull design that some of your readers may like to look at. The app has modest capabilities, is easy to use and is intended for nonprofessionals with an interest in boat design. This is a new project and I am especially interested in learning whether intended users considered it appropriate for their purposes.

Boat Design Apprentice is an easy to use desktop application for designing hard-chine, flat-bottom boat hulls. The designer enters parameters describing the desired hull shape and the software draws lines plans, calculates design specifications and prepares the table of construction offsets. The application facilitates the design of simple hulls and encourages beginning designers to develop their working familiarity with key features of hull shape.
