Exporting a solid in Autocad to Rhino as surfaces

Hi,

I have a problem... I have a solid model in Autocad. I have to export it to Rhino as surfaces to expand... but when I explode the solid it doesnt give me surfaces in Autocad. It gives "BODY" s... I've never seen anything like "BODY"... Rhino doesnt import "BODY"... Rhino doesnt import whole solid model... How can I do this???

Try:

http://www.steptools.com/strepo/logi...slate%2Ecgi%3F

Save your model from autocad as a .sat file and convert to step using steptools service and open the step file on rhino

Have you tried reading the file with Rhino 4? There are always improvements being made to our DWG importer and this may have been fixed in the most recent build of Rhino.
Thanks,
-Steve

Haven't found any acis file that i cannot convert using steptools, is it a single solid? or multiple solids? did you try the diferent types of step format?, other detail is that the file that you download you have to rename it to .stp, sometimes the download has a form like this "name".stp.txt. chage it to "name".stp only

have a look at it and see if this help.

Now if there still any errors converting change the version of your acis file to v3 on autocad and see if this help, also one tool i have installed is the hoopsacis viewer, i can save my .sat files to newer or older formats using this application and "kinda" repairs the .sat file.

http://www.spatial.com/products/download.html

is a good sofwtare to have if you don't have any other acis capable software.

I think my problem is not converting .sat to .stp ; problem is reading that .stp file in Rhino... When I select to import .stp file program tries but cant do it and doesnt answer my commands... Do you think it is about the error in converting?

The file consists of many solids in Autocad... it is superstructure of a sailling boat... I tried copy surfaces from solid and export to Rhino as .dxf; Rhino imports it as meshes but not correct...

Try exporting one part of the sailboat, as a sat and convert it to step, and open it with rhino, if it opens correctly what is maybe happening is that the file is too big and takes time to rhino to read it or maybe the translation is getting all "screwup" becouse ther is so many parts, make sure that you can import by doing one or two parts to see if the Step import feature is working on rhino.

try exporting only parts of the file, becouse if there is many parts in the file all it needs is one part to "Screw up" the whole assy.

let me know if it worked out

I had this problem a few months ago, a large step file that Rhino wouldn't open. I opened it in Alibre Design and removed a lot of unwanted details, then saved it and oppened it in Rhino.

Have you guys tried just opening the DWG file in Rhino4? Does anyone have a file that they would like to send me to see if I can figure out what is going wrong?

Thanks,
-Steve
