digital scan refinement

i am looking for a program to clean up digital scans . There was mention of one some time ago, but I dont remember it.

I think what I am looking for is an enhancement program to deal with enlarging low quality digital images .

Would be a good product. I just went to a photocopy shop ,setup to scan architectural drawings, to have 52 pages of ships electrical diagrams scanned from paper to disc. Cost 200 dollars and the quality is poor. I was going to scan an additional 50 or 60 sheets of boat plans ,but cancelled when I saw the shadowy quality.

I used VueScan to scan a book with drawings and photographs, Boats; a Manual for Their Documentation. I used the constrast controls, etc to get good quality scans. You can see the results and download the book at http://www.museumsmallcraft.org/publications.html

VueScan can be downloaded at http://hamrick.com/ The price is reasonable.

Hi Frank,

I don't know if I'm on the right format for you here, but
Adobe Photoshop is the best Scan program I've ever known.
I was a desktop publisher for 15 years.

expensive program for sure, but certainly the best.

A better description of what I am looking for would be a enhancement program.
You enlarge a digital scan to the point it becomes a mass of pixels and looses definition.
Now there is a program that locates the area a greatest density and extrapolates a newly defined line by way of an algorithm .

Dirteater, I am getting some luck with a photo program. Between sharpen and contrast
that may work . Sharpen is what I may be talking about anyway.
