DELFTship & Seakeeper

Hello everyone, this is my first post.

I'm not a marine engineer, but a structural engineer in the marine environment.
I'm trying to use Orcaflex for dynamic analysis of mooring buoys.
For modeling of the vessel is required to input the RAOs and QTFs (second order).
I saw that Seakeeper can model this problem, but obviously requires the geometry of the vessel as input.
I did not need to have a ship just as it is, but I'm interested in his size and its type (oil tanker). I found DELFTship-free that has a free online database of several ships, including also the oil tanker.
My problem is how to export the vessel from DELFTship and than import it in Seakeeper.

I thank everyone, this is a wonderful forum

Well as you can get Maxsurf, it is more easy to import the hull forms from maxsurf into seakeeper. In Maxsurf several hull forms are available.

An other way is to export the files from Delftship in to GHS and import this into seakeeper, altough I am not completely shore is seakeeper is able of importing GHS.

In addition to what klass said, Seakeeper only open Maxsurf Msd format file. I dont see any other import option there.

so, if you have Rhino, First take the model from Delftship to Rhino (as 3d model) then take it in Maxsurf, save the design as *.msd format . and now open in Seakeeper.

Or if possible take directly the ship model from Delftship to Maxsurf in common readable format then take it to Seakeeper.

Thanks for your reply!
It seems to me that just to buy Maxsurf DEFTship for resave files is a waste.
I will ask the supplier to Seakeeper what kind of files can be imported.

If you can not switch directly from DELFTship to Seakeeper, where can I find a library of vessel fot Maxsurf? I am only interested in oil tanker.

Thanks very much for your help!

you can try Maxsurf academic , it allows to work with maximum 3 surface. so if the delftship hull of the ship is made from total 3 surface it will work for you. and maxsurf academic is free from the company website.

Ok thanks! I do not know there was a version of Maxsurf for students.
I tried it, but there's only the CAD, while I am interested in Seakeeper.

have you looked at delftload with calculation of hydrostatics in waves ?
and realise not all old freeship database models can be easyly loaded into delftship
you may try as zeroname mentioned or draw up a tanker hull in a format you want
for testing, i may be wrong but think seakeeper was in the trial as well..

There are a couple of oil tankers designs included with Maxsurf. You can just get the low cost Maxsurf Plus version and that includes these designs which can then be used with the Seakeeper module. Seakeeper works very well for low speed wall sided shapes like a tanker.
