    Hi everyone,

I am looking some free CAD software that will make and let you export/print plate expansions.

I know delftship free will let you view them but not export unless you buy it.

Im also looking at free!hip, does that let you export the plate expansions?

If you have any better suggestions i would love to hear them.

    Many Thanks in advance.

ok so i have downloaded Free!ship 2.6 and made a boat design that i am happy with, now i want to print a scale model of the plate expansions but, the size of the print out i am getting doesn't match up with the dimensions shown on the plate expansion.

So i can work with what i have for the scale model but, when it comes time to build the full scale boat i want to have the full size plate expansions to lay them out on the aluminum.

so if anyone has any info on how to do this it would be much appreciated.

PorkChop did you scale the print drawing? If so would the drawing fit on the paper size available as some will print to fit the paper size.

If I understood your question, I think you can only do three things:
    - use a plotter, the old type, drum of paper, and get a picture of the developed plate, natural size.
    - Take sufficient dimensions of the design you have and draw it by hand on the aluminum plate.
    - Use a CNC program that allows you to cut the piece into a numerical control machine

I scaled the design down before i did the plate expansions of it.

I printed it at staples they have a giant printer that is 4 ft wide.

With a large format printer you can scale the printing so that, for example, if the part has a length of 3 feet, the final drawing has a length of 30ยด
, 75', 100 ', or as long as the printer paper supports.
I do not know if I will have helped with this.
As a last resort I can think of exporting the original sketch to any other CAD system that allows you to obtain measures of the piece.
