| Boundary conditions on hull model in ANSYS ![]() I have to do a nonlinear analysis on icebreaker hull. I have to apply the load at the bottom of the bow. Besides that, I do not know what supports to put on the model. Can someone suggest what supports should I put on the model? |

| Do you have the ice load or do you want to find the maximum ice load? You might need to start outside the model with first principles depending on what you have/need. BTW, axis should be x fwd, y stbd, z down so all the signs and directions work out. Will save you headaches later.

| I have to investigate the interlaminar shear stress of the sandwich plate which is to be assigned as the material of the hull. The ice load pressure is known. What I need to know is the boundary supports on the model in Ansys. |

| If you are only using the model for the skin plating loads, just assume the ice load is the maximum add any buoyant pressure hydro skin loads also, and fix the model bulkheads inboard of the effected structure using a rigid frame. There is no need to have free body model response and flexure unless you are interested in "large" flexure of the shell panels. To calculate the loads and response due to ramming and runup is a dynamic scenario.
