In Korea, they often use Nupas Cadmatic and Xbase (Hanjin Heavy Industry and STX) for design step. XBase is made in Korea and use Sikob database. Do you have any experience of it?

call me cynical, but shouldnt the poll be more like
"how many users are there of the following software on Boatdesign.net"
How many voters have used 5 or 6 or the different packages to be able to make a sensible comparison as to which is best?
BTW Im a developer for Maxsurf so Im pleased to see it leading at the moment, but Im not really too sure how useful this type of poll is if you are in the market to buy some new software

Yes, when Delftship first came out, Freeship was replaced with Delftship in that year's version of this poll (I believe 06/07.) I've now re-added FreeShip as an option in this poll as well.

I must admit I am not up to speed on inventor - the last time I demoed it very briefly was much closer to its beginning than the current time. The poll started focused on hull surface modelers; over the years we've added programs but I didn't include inventor because I think of it as a modeler for structures and components but not a hull modeler. How is inventor currently being used for boat design? Any neat examples and/or a quick inventor overview would be appreciated.

I use Freeship because it's free and I know it a little and I don't know most of those softwares, so it's a good idea to have them listed, it gives us the opportunity to look at them also.

For the most part I think it is about what you design. Obviously if you're into canoe's I doubt you'll go for the $100k software. The big boat designer may not go for Freeship... but it all depends on your budget and how big a tax problem you have.

The best software is the software that provides you with what you need as a result.
When we need a graphical format we like to use Inventor.
When we need t oconvert a linesplan PDF to CAD to a Working hull for motions analysis we prefer accuracy and that means Rhino , in our opinion.
That does not mean this is correct. It just means we are willing to pay the price to get the job completed to the level we require at industry standard for our clients.
It depends what you clients demand from you as a service.
This is the key to this survey.
If your client is satisfied with your level of output using teh software you use, then that is the one for you.
Thus, an added question should be applied to this survey -
Q - what vessel/industry is the hullform generated from the software?
