Best Marine Design Software for Hull Design? (2001-2005)

I found my prosurf program yahoooooo. been an long time just need hollister to get me my password. If anyone hear got Hollister to contact me I really appreciate it. If not well hell thank you any way for listening to my frustration with the situation.

I find Rhino to be incredibly user friendly, despite its scary-thick manual. Then again, I'm not exactly an old hand here... but I did pick up Rhino pretty well in about 6-10 hours of using it, mostly just playing around. Far more intuitive than something like SolidEdge or AutoCAD. Still a lot about it I don't know, of course.... powerful tool, as most modern CAD programs are. I still use paper for sketching, though- nothing like a set of pencils and a sheet of squished tree to get some ideas out.

I think a combination of FreeShip, Rhino, Alibre Xpress and IntelliCAD gives most for the money.

yes- Freeship 2.2 can export directly to Michelet's in.mlt format. The translation is quite reliable and I have found Michlet to be predictable and stable when working with Freeship-generated files. The Michlet output tables, on the other hand, require a bit more effort to work with, as I'm sure you know.... but yes, Freeship and Michlet do make a good pair.

What sort of tables would you prefer, Matt? I've got dozens of hydro codes with dozens of output variations depending on what I am researching. I might be able to include more output file types in Michlet if people want them.

I very much like Michlet, Leo.... a good, solid and reliable program. As far as the output files go, I've found it just takes some practice and experimenting to pick them apart into something that makes sense in Quattro or Excel. It's just a mater of getting used to what is, for most of us who are used to a pretty GUI, a fairly complex output format. Would be awesome to see more codes of course! Great program, Leo- keep 'em coming.

Michlet outputs many quantities as single column text files (e.g. Speed, Resistance etc) that can be loaded into Excel automatically. After running Michlet, I can switch to an Excel workbook that loads the data and scales it into the form I need for a particular project.

I have a few other codes in progress but they are not quite ready for public consumption yet as I am modifying their input/output formats to fit in with Free!Ship.
