Autoship ???

At our Uni we learn Autoship for basic hull design. How does this compare interms of usabilitey, etc to other software pakages. We mostley use it to design model sail boats, for our second year project.

Autoship is an excellent program. Its lack of o-snaps and real time pan-zoom are the only drawbacks. Very good fairing tools.

Hi there:

I'm student myself, & i'm working with Autoship & Autohydro in my graduation project.
Autoship is good, but it have a very serious problems in user interface. just as like Plamer sayed no o-snaps and real time pan-zoom.
But the program results are excellent.

Modelmaker is suffering badly from this problem ( u can;t see the 3 modeling views (plan, body plan & profile) together in the same time & u can only see the model in station form i.e u can't see it like a surface).

I think that major improvment in user interface must be made to Autoship & modelmaker.

I'm a user of Autoship and Autohydro for the past 4 years. Personally, I prefer Autoship than the other hull modeling tools mainly due to its more manageable control points when comes to designing very complex hull.
I don't see the need for o-snap since the points can be handled easily via F-keys. Furthermore with the new version, there is now a function for pan realtime just like the AutoCad.

Modeling via Modelmaker has to come with some experiences. Occasionally, you have to switch back to Autoship to do some refining before exporting back to Modelmaker in order to give the gf file a better presentation of the section. Once you learn the 'trade', the rest is history.

same,

There is plenty of .pr3 that come together with the tutorials when you installed Autoship. You can use them as your practice.
