free ship file

?1
bow slope in profile view
centerline from 9.3m stem 0cm draught, back to full draught (15cm)
the yellow selected points

it's lumpy
is there a way to equalise this line?
ie select 5 points along the center line and have them autocurved?

?2
the middle third of the hull has to be lots thinner

rather than fiddling, is there some single line or curve i can play with?
to suck in that gut?

?3
what should i do to the first leak point near the stern?
is there auto smooth? auto correct?
should i bother fixing them?

?4
in body plan, can you step through one slice at a time?

?
how drop a background image in?

onya,
mal

i've gone as far as i'm able at this point in my skills, so i'll attach the file hoping some nice person will make it look more like this hull shape.

or,
any advice on what to do next greatly appreciated.

(
also;
just to let you all know,
when the plans are finished, i'm going to release it here and call it

Open Source Island Hopping Catamaran Plans
Version 1.0

there will be NO names or credit given on these plans.
(not even me)
)

heaps of little companies on the web that have 5 axis milling machines, you mail them a file and they can cut a 3d shape out of foam. thinking getting a 50cm hull shape sent to me.

anybody ever done this?

Your main problem is you modeled both sides of the hull yourself. you only need to model one side...freeship takes care of the other side. What you have done is put some of the hull on one side of the centerline and some on the other...thus creating leak points where things don't make sense to Freeship. You also need to close the hull at the transom. Here is how it should look (sorta...I did it real quick). If you want to see it with both sides click on the button that says " show both sides of the model". You also need to play with the crease button to smooth curves along with un-checking the "corner" box in the point dialog box that pops up when you highlight a point. Time to go and read the manual...lots of this stuff is in there.

thanks dude,
only drawing one side.
using freeship starts off like this (used delftship before, and made the mistake you're talking bout though, it starts off like that)

read the manual, got absolutely nowhere.

moved not an inch till i found a real good tutorial. just so easy with the right tutorial.

you can also get stuck on a real simple point as well.
i'm getting faster, only been on it a week.

thanks!
digesting . . .
i'll be back,
mal.

Hi Bob,
did you find the answer to question no 4?
I am still in the 'figuring out process'...though, must confess, manual comes in handy only after lot of trial and errors...

yes. one of the last buttons on the tool bar. list of stations. highlight, delete the unwanted. and don't save! this gets you any slice you want. but remember, don't save, just quit the little box and all come back.
