3d People (Daz Studio)

Hi,

For all those people who have looked for or asked about people models to use in 3d CAD:

Have a look at Daz Studio (abeit its a Wip/beta/still testing version)

http://www.daz3d.com/studio/index.php?

Its a freeware app that can be used to (amoung other things)scale/pose people.
Poser's high resolution Victoria 3, Michael, and Aiko can be downloaded free.
Daz studio can export the model as .obj - then you can import it into Rhino.
Poser content can be used - and there is no shortage of that...

It does look very impressive for modelling humans/scenes. I suspect, though, that it works on a mesh principle, not a true surface method. If that is the case, then I suspect that is probably the limit of it's usefulness. I may be wrong, though.

Gives some fantastic-looking renders,

Tim B.

Hi Tim,

Yes it is based on meshes, thus the people are not posable in Rhino. However it is possible to generate a set of "pre-posed" textured people
ie various sitting, standing, bending, lying down etc.
My current figure is a very robotic looking Adam I got from renderosity.com
He is posable, but I find I very rarely change his pose anyway.
I guess for me the value might be in having realistic people in renders. Not to mention a pretty girl on the screen to keep me company

Rob,

That is depressing, the era of electronic porn is truly upon us.
