Lloyds register (UK) rules free

Well Lloyds register has joined the fray. You can now have several of their rules for free in electronic format.

Here's special service craft which includes the boats.

Here's the ships

Set up an account with their web store. Then you can download the rules for free and you'll receive emails about updates.

Any further queries just contact them directly.

The rules for naval vessels are there for free too.

Lloyds register informed AMSA who informed us ! There's nothing about it on their site but it's a very sensible move. Now all the western countries rules are free as far as I know except for DNV.

Now they should make their software free too. Whoever does that will get a lot more custom.

Out of interest these are the class societies Australia recognise now. I'm not sure who china has copied but the CCS will be an upcoming standard we need to work with. Indonesia simply adopted GL.

We have our own standard too (USL) which has just been reformed.

Vessel Certification (AMSA Recognised Organisations)

AMSA is responsible for managing survey and certification arrangements for Australian ships.
This is achieved through arrangements between AMSA and recognised Classification Societies, which are delegated to conduct approvals, survey and certification requirements. These arrangements aim to ensure compliance with AMSA’s statutory responsibilities and Class agreements.
AMSA has recognised Classification Societies, which are members of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) [www.iacs.org.uk], to undertake survey, certification and approval functions on its behalf. These are:AMSA has an agreement with each of these Classification Societies governing the provision of survey and certification services for vessels registered in Australia.
AMSA represents Australia at the IMO on issues related to approvals, survey and certification matters - particularly in relation to ship design, structure, load lines, machinery and equipment requirements.

I first used CCS way way back in 1992. It was a blatant copy of DNVs HSLC rules, even the same errors were in there!

Not used it since the mid 90s, so no idea if it has developed and indeed deviated much from DNVs to todays latest CCS rules.

That's a typical pragmatic Chinese approach.
