    1. Most of the time the company who builds the boat builds the original mold. Similar skills and materials are required. The mold costs as much as 2 or 3 boats because it is heavier and has a heavy framework. It also requires building a plug first to layup the mold over.

    2. There are companies who specialize in producing tooling. Some use 3d axis machines to mill a plug out of foam instead of the traditional way.

    3. Tooling is frequently sold by companies either being old models or companies that exit the business. Many boats can be found that have been built by different companies with different names because the tooling and rights were sold.
