racing a J24 and for that matter 99% of yachts were never designed to have crew on deck to sail them.

Most production yachts are about as egonomic as a WWII Spitfire where you had to change hands on the stick to get the wheels up.

PS boats not designed for people over 6'

PPS Saildrives made of aluminium...like DOH never seen the trouble with mooring a sterndrive?

Double DOH..Volvo have a composite stern drive but not a sail drive??

The "worst" design is obviously the one that dosn't sell .. after all wer'e talkin yachts here guys. Now if you start to include designs that sell wer'e into the bad design category and ther's plenty of them also. Yachts sell basically on the elements of desire not function and form may follow function and it may not. And beauty isn't in the eye of the beholder .. money is. Beauty can be learned and frequently is a result of function but always a design must be judged by the definition of design and to that I offer this "an organized solution to a problem".

I think one of the most definitive example of an inherently bad design would ba a boat that suddenly dives below the surface on calm water, throwing a passenger off the bow

Maybe we should try design a boat doing that and start a new watersport.

There is always a meaning of everything!

Any boat that does not have a good place to store rum is a bad boat.
