Wooden Boat Design Contest ; 12 Kn. @ 2GPH

A trailable wave piercing catamaram hull would seem to be a promising approach ?

Any Thoughts ?

My thought is that the best way to find out is to pursue such a design yourself and send it off.

Thanks, Tom. I have not developed the requsite design skills to submit
a design by the April deadline, but I wanted to suggest a winning approach for anyone who might be interested.

300 kg(hull only) / 11.80m by 3.5m / 30hp
1000W & 8 knots
Top speed 20 Knots
Cruise speed 15/18 Knots & 4000rpm

Stabilized Moohull

Thanks. Looks interesting. Does it meet the 8' beam limit for the Wooden Boat Mag. contest ?

The Wooden Boat Contest:

http://www.woodenboat.com/wbmag/designchallenge2.php

limits beam to 243.84 cm ( 8 ft. max ) so if the almas were within that limit, you might have a contender ?

A canoe type hull is the most efficient. However, most of these contest cater to the more fantastic design. If you intend to win, looking at the tastes and tendencies of the judges is more important than the advantages of a particular design.

"Must include at least Spartan overnight accommodations (berths, head, galley) for two adults and two children"

"maintaining a 10 knot cruising speed in a 2′ (0.6m) chop and 15-knot breeze while carrying 800 lbs/362 kg (family of four). "

Does that tri meet those contest conditions?
