Why are rowing boats wider in the aft section

In the old days boats were put together by a combination of seamen and shipwrights (carpenters) getting together and building something that was easy and practible to build, it looked good and invariably worked! The ideas wasn't changed much because seamen and shipwrights were practible sensible men who could never see the sense in doing something that would'nt work! A bit like "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Then some smartarse invent a strange creature who rarely went to sea, knew little about the sea or practicle construction methods -you know like how a tree bends! Also he had to do something that nobody else had! On land these creatures were called Architects -for boats they became Naval Architects!

Now not all Naval Architects are bad (bit like certain races in the world), some in fact are very good at what they do but they tend to be the exception rather than the rule (the good ones tend to post on here, they are good because they actually communicate with the customers and are practical!) but most, unfortunately, are pig igernat self opinionated.......you get my drift?!

Well these guys had to do something different and so.........even the few good ones are struggling to get back to the original ideas - there is some silly idea that you can't build a boat without several miles of paper, CAD machines and expensive dodads!

That should get a few going - of course the good N.A.s will agree with me and say nothing - the bad ones? They'll be screaming!!! look out for lots of posts from the idjits!! Even with this provisio there will be a few!!!

I should have thought that the members of this forum would know the answer to the original question by now, but I guess all those years at sea have interfered with the necessary research. But to answer the question:

Rowing boats are wider in the aft section because they are female.
