what is a RO-RO boat ?

Hello all,

I'm a beginner in the marine world, maybe someone can help me..

I've just heard about a RO-RO boat ? what means RO-RO

Ro-Ro in the ship world means roll-on roll-off. Marketing term for ships that handle wheeled cargo, like cars, trucks, that are driven on and off the ship, ie. rolled on and off. I've never heard it applied to boats, so don't know if there is another meaning.

But RO-RO is generically roll on roll off - as categorized above -

Here is one.

This is a Ro-Ro. One of the tough design requirements of this one is dealing with ventelation of all the exhaust from this huge floating parking lot.

ok, but in my mind a ro-ro is more like all the passenger ships we drive cars trucks and trains on with a wide opening stern to roll on and upward hinging bow to roll of...
