volvo penta 200d starting in the water issues

I have a 1968 chris craft with a volvo penta 200D out drive and when I start it in the water it will run for a few minutes and then flood out and die when I try to restart it it will not start and drags is there something internally that is letting water create backpressure? I would appreciate any help!

Fuel pump problem? Maybe carb jets are set wrong? Try taking your boatyard's mechanic for a quick cruise. Back pressure in water lines shouldn't be able to stall a motor.

(Just making sure- by 'flood out' you do mean flooding the motor with fuel, not with water, right?)

If it is water, the exhaust riser would be my first guess.

it is flooding with fuel in the carburator

So if you run it on a hose until it is warm there is no problem? Also check the bypass on the fuel pump. If the primary diafragm broke, the leaking fuel is dumped into the intake manifold. It is ( or should be) a clear 1/4" plastic line.

I had a friend of mine come over and we took a look at my carb i had rebuilt and it was leaking fuel while sitting.I also have fuel in my oil so I have to have them look at my carb again and make some adjustments will keep you posted!
