| Vision of future boating - design competition I'm new to this forum, so my apologies if this is not in the proper location. I would like to inform you about our design competition "Vision of future boating". The competition is arranged by several actors from Finnish boating industry. We are calling for radically new concepts of future recreational boating. Please don't concentrate on technical details but rather on a basic idea of boating and a boat. We ask you to envision how the future of recreational boating could be like from your point of view? There are three themes : boats, boating services and marina experience. We have introduced inspirational material also. The competition is open for professionals and non-professionals. The total sum of prizes is 6000 €. You will find more information, inspirational material and rules from https://blogs.aalto.fi/visionfutureboating/ Deadline for the competition is 30th September. If you have any comments or questions about the competition, please don't hesitate to comment the blog, Janne Pekkala |

| Design drivers do ring a bell, lets see what we can come up with and show all thoughts after october here plz ![]() Going boating is like a transition to a different world – it is a break from the hectic everyday life. Spending time near water is relaxing and empowering. What kind of solutions could make boating like an “own, private island” where you can escape the hectic everyday life? Experiencing the nature is an integral part of boating. Nature can act as a source of well-being. Being surrounded by elements of nature, one becomes relaxed and even meditative. How can boats and services enhance the experience of nature? Being together with family and friends is part of boating. What kind of boating would offer unforgettable memories and experiences with your close ones? ![]() People spend holidays living in boats. Some boaters spend time on their boat even without leaving the marina. The boat and the dock could be a home-like space – an extension of your home. What kind of a boat or dock could be a space of relaxation and private living? ![]() How could children-oriented boating be like? Boating should be safe but also interesting for kids. How should a boat be like from kids’ point of view? ![]() On the water, one almost has unlimited options of routes to choose. The world is open for boaters. One can feel like an adventurer discovering new places. What kind of a solution could make you even more unlimited? ![]() Playing with your boat can be exciting and demanding. The boat could act as an extension of your body. How could one move in water like a dolphin? ![]() For the modern individual, boating is one of the rare possibilities to face nature as it is. The mercilessness of nature and the risk of death can be experienced when boating in demanding conditions. When boating alone, one can feel ultimate independence and solitude. In demanding weather conditions, surviving is depending only on you. You can only trust yourself. It’s challenging but rewarding. Storing and transporting your boat in an urban environment can be troublesome and expensive. What kind of boating would fit in your urban environment? ![]() The population in western countries is aging. It has unavoidable impacts on boating too. Most of the elderly boaters are still active and willing to go boating, but physical disabilities might prevent them. Even going into a boat can be difficult for people with physical disabilities. How do we make boating more accessible for the elderly and for the disabled? |

| My internet connection is to slow to view all the prize winners. Prize one is a joke. Offset companionway ??????????????? I can see the sea water rushing in now. No place on deck to shelter from wind, spray or burning sun ? Jeez. and all that glass. Do they want to grow tomatoes ??? Glass windows are for people who like to sit inside and watch the world go by...like watching television !! What a terrible concept of a boat |

| Quite the variety of craft and solutions. ........................................ Will #3 float? Has that type of drive ever been used before, does it exist? ......................................... I do like #4, nicely explained in simple terms graphically. .................................................. The jet ski thing looks like it could work - nice.
