VARA system

Few years ago I heve seen a lot of boats using this system. Is it used now? I was thinking about canting keels and asymetrick dagerboards. And I came up with idea, of using twin asymetric ruderrs. They would work the same as dagerboards, the upwind ruder would be lifted out of the watter, them the uper dagerboard is raised. And sailing downwind both ruders would be semi lowered so the lift would be eliminated. What do you think?

The vara rudder system is used on the Melges 32, and some new race yachts by Dijkstra (www.gdnp.nl) Same kind of system is designed by Kulmann http://www.kullmann.no/pages/bkd-vr1.html
