How is this different to a horizontal slider?

from first observation, there seem some disadvantages:
sticks out further
weighs more
breaks easier
hits you in the head
but the silver lining is, you can open both sides at once!

PS: And I have to add, try installing two next to each other, or one in a corner!

o.k.,,,,Landie or someone explain to me how they save space?,,it looks to me like they take up more room,,wouldnt a regular swinging door with regular hinges take up the same or less room?,,,i like being able to get the door right out of the way,,,wouldnt a "open then push in "top swinger take up less room then them all?

I simply did not understand the merit in this design. You cannot install two of them side by side, as you cannot open both of them at the same time, unless you close the other one first. Transferring the contents of one to the other might be a lot of fun.
You cannot fit one in a corner as you cannot open the side next to the corner.
And how many unutilised corners are there in a boat galley.
The hinge mechanism takes up a lot of floor space in the cabinet.
Controlled opening with lots of loose objects behind the lid may be tricky, as you cannot see what may be falling through the horizontal gap before you open.
On the other hand i think it might be handy to have something like this for a top load ice box type application, where the lids face the sky so to speak.
As you can open the lid to the extent necessary,without worrying about how to keep it open untill you are done with it. Provided that there is enough friction in the hinges. Mind you if there isnt, and your galley cabinet is on the windward side of a hard heeled sailboat, you may have a spectacular opening aided by the weight of the lid itself.

Thanks so much for posting your responses and thoughts on this hardware. I will try to answer as best as I can. First of all let me give you a background on who I am and how I found this hardware. I was working as an engineer for a high-end kitchen cabinet company when I came across this hardware. It is one of the most durable assemblies I have seen in my profession. As a boater aficionado myself I believe this application could work well inside a boat where space saving is vital.

This hardware does not restrict itself to specifically one application. It offers the capability to work to ones imagination. If you visited the www.effegibrevetti.com site you will see various applications for the Pegaso. One application you would not see is one that I came up with myself which uses one Pegaso door with a bank of drawers behind it. The great part of this application is that when the door is closed the vertical bar acts a stop holding the drawers from opening during travel. With a swinging door you have to deal with knuckles of the hinges not to mention the space it would take up in full swing. This hardware sports an all metal assembly with soft-close.

Hmmm. I wonder if you can take that application to the front of my jeans? It's a rather dramatic and glorious opening...like a stage curtain. Music should play as they open. Perhaps it would help my chances with the ladies??

I was in a shop the other day looking at cabinet doors, specifically for use on a boat. The ones I saw were opening up from the middle then push into the sides, or you fold them down from the top and then push in underneath and there was one that worked like a garage door that slides over the top and down at the back.

All of them looked quite fancy, however, the thought ocuured to me that sometime when you differ from the proven everyday used to use it often results in an irritation.

I was weighing the slide over into the back little garage door thing for instance. To take something out the top you have to slide it all the way up. I thought it could become irritating after a while. Just got that idea.

Cabinet doors with fancy actions also only works while they are mechanically sound, these drawers with the bearing slide rails are great, until something goes wrong... I had to open one or two with a crow bar Works great... I mean the crow bar

I decided since that simple would be better. It's going to cost less, work just as well if not better. Just my opinion.
