Is this a stabilised mono hull or a trimaran?

And what is the defining line...habitation in the hulls =trimaran?

 

Guess you could utilize either term, but since it has 3 hulls the trimaran designation holds true.

Habitation in the outer hulls is an old idea that was utilized in the early development days of cruising multihulls. I can't think of many modern tri's that try to make use of their outer hulls for accommodations, or even storage.

Here are some recent photos of the LCS 2 (to be USS) Independence.
She's at 43 knots here running at half power. NOTE the absence of a bow wave.
Turns tightly, also; allegedly this also was done at 43 knots...and from the look of the small bow wave, she's still in the turn.

I'd have made the wing surfaces useful lounge area. Maybe terrace them.

Carry small boats under the arm-pits, too, for easy launching, and to keep all that messy stuff away from main cabin.

 

I had a Nichols 45 built in the mid 60's .

The bunks were in the wing section , only a ladder, small locker and head were in the float.

Was exciting as a 13ft whaler could fit between the hulls , and friends would take thrill rides at midnight.
