| A thorn in one's flesh... Which one will you choose? And why? What are we loosing in new concepts boats that try to give a cut with everything seen before? Is it really a mistake trying to forget the past? What does it means contemporary? I wonder if the future someone is trying to sell us is fake or honest... | Guess it depends who were trying to impress on the day - different boats for different blokes..... so its one of each for me  Then again, I'm not much into trying to impress blokes - like Gonzo, I'll take the one with the 2 complimentary crewmembers on the sunpad....

| That definately looks Italian--or so you would think ,but when I double clicked in to have a look at the crumpet on the back seat--She is British registered. The young ladies must be Iti, we dont get crumpet like that in UK. Errr what was the question? |

| ...Geeeeeeeeeee! I was trying to understand from you if "contemporary" from Wally means walking on the street with a spacecowboy suit or if the "contemporary" from riva is a good job on lines that are the usual old sup and you are not able to see anything else than a nice ass? Spare me Simon |

| SimonB: this is a trick question. We got distracted by the view. The boats are well designed for the style. I think it is harmonious in its way. I prefer softer lines though.

| Ugly is the new pretty Is it just me, or is ugly in fashion? The Wally above is a prime example. In the automotive world we have the BMW 5, 6 and 7 series, in increasing order of ugliness. Mercedes used to be tasteful, now adding more baroque details. The Maserati Quattroporte is the big exception here. In the posts above there are several references to the shape of the passengers. I doubt if we would appreciate them if drawn by the same pen (or computer) as the Wally. The Riva gets my vote, although it breaks no new ground.  |

| For what was this vessel built, it has what looks like poor accomodation for a boat that size,. It is called 'Lunch boat' ,--is that a spelling mistake it looks more like a launch boat of an extravagent super yacht. That would make more sense but where is the driver --inside? why is it too cold to drive outside?, if it is then why is the crumpet lying on a bed half naked( notice one is covered up with a towel). What is it with these kind of boats that have huge crumpet carriers, its as though its as necessary as the winches on a yacht. Cant these girls ride on a boat without stripping off and lying down?--or is it a pre-requisite to getting on the boat in the first place.!! Cant see a use for it but a very expensive day boat. The designer must have took weeks to design the cabin-- is it 3/4 ply? Check out the movie 'The island' with Ewan Mc Gregor in the first few minutes there is a boat just like this one. Maybe its the one. |

| Its simple simonB; Big fast boat = big money Big money = big ego Big ego likes to have big fast boat that no one else has. Asthetics is not a consideration. Just like fashion. Who would wear some of the stuff you see on the catwalks today. Only someone who wants everyone else to know how much they spent on an original. Remember; style is something you as a designer have. Fashion is something someone else buys. |

| Ugly is not necessarily the new pretty. I have found that some putrid looking boats have been built to appeal to a cusomer who wants particular ammenities inside and out and doesn't care if they destroy the lines of the vessel.

| When the Wally 118 was 1st shown it dropped the jaw of everyboady who laid eyes on it. That I'm certain was the intention of its builders, so as a statement it must surely rate as one of the most outstanding designs in recent times. As a boat, I fear it has been far less successful - it failed to reach it's target speed, and as I've mentioned elswhere on these boards, the helmsman is unable to sight the horizon when the boat is running at speed! For me, this 65 foot, scaled down version is less succesful stylistically - the glasshouse (no it's not 3/4" ply Jack!) looks too high... out of proportion with the rest of the boat. The Riva - well it's a Riva - ipso facto - it IS beautiful!

| Oh it certainly screams out 'look at me' but thats Italian every thing they do is 'look at me' cars ,fashion, and they can do it. Building some thing like this just to find out if the world likes it is very brave thing to do , i can only immagine how much one is.. if you saw one in a boat show you could'nt walk past it. My jaw has now closed-- and you know what? its growing on me. Do you think I would be able to get a girl friend if I had one of those??? |

| What amazes me is how Wally seems to feel that people will pay for a boat that LOOKS as though is was cobbled together from the plywood scrap pile at the back of the shop. Beautifully painted ply, of course... Steve |
