we have a small team coming together to make this happen with a
v6 outboard
any in put would be of great help
we do want to stay with a hydroplane design so we can fly the boat on the prop

thanks

Search here for threads on speed records, there are a few, and some good links to other good sources. If the small group includes someone who knows firsthand about ultra high speed props, you'll be well on your way.

Good luck!

Just noticed your location. There may be some retired or laid off Mercury Marine techs in your area, from the former test facility in Placida, near the road to the Boca Grande causeway on Cape Haze. Maybe even a prop man.

i have seen that boat run
and have seen it have big time handing issues
we need something that gets more and more stable as the speed comes
and as stream line as a dart with as little drag as possible
both hydro and airo

The Liquid Quik has survived mechanical failures that would've crashed a Deaver type drag hull.

At this point I don't think there are any right or wrong answers, so Grand Prix/Formula One type tunnel hulls are also another option to consider.

yea we thought of that one as well
17' 18 tunnels are limited to around 150 or so then they tend to blow over

its not going to be easy

looks like the team may buy a boat instead of build it so that puts me on the side lines
for now

Venturi effect

We broke and held a world Kilo record with this wooden, low profile cat. We had 8 mercury 200 outboard power heads mated to two speed masters. Your goal can be reached with a smaller version hull and single 650hp outboard. Consider building a wide, low platform with a narrow airtight cockpit (safety capsule w chute). We got this up to 150mph but the daisy chained 2 stroke engine rpms could never be sync'd and usually tore up the aft most power heads on the drawdown. The driver, Bill Serois, told me it was very squirrelly and hard to control up to about 100mph, after that the slipstream started a venturi effect in the tunnel. This is the same effect the Indy cars use to stick to the road. It drove like it was on rails after that took effect and he felt it had a lot more speed in it if we could have solved the engine/sync issue. It sounds counter intuitive but the boat proved down force is good for calm water speed runs, make the cross over section joining the twin hulls an upside down airfoil and set the thrust angle to run the hull flat. At those speeds in a light/small hull you want suction, not lift on the body. The keels act like rails on ice over 100, its too fast to push down into the water. You will need long shallow strakes aft to keep it from barn-dooring in a turn.

fashined after a f-15 eagle
i got to cut the sponsons down a little yet

i was trying way to be way to greedy on the prop
14 34 12 29
i got a 12 16 two blade i want to try next
none of the guys want to risk a motor for the other speed record
with the outboard
so im back to my electric power
if i can get my hands on some decent batteries i think i got it or at least it will plane off and run
its all baby steps to you get going

rambat is right....a tunnel won't "blow over" if it is designed for the intended speed. tunnels can be dynamically stable...designing for stability through the transition velocities are challenging for all hull types, but tunnels have enough controllable parameters to make it possible....just needs to be done! And making a 100mph boat design go 150mph is always going to be a formula for disaster....must be designed for the speed range intended.
