What type of keel?

Swing keel (center board) pivot bolt, or ballast keel to framing?

If you have a good mechanical seat and connection, I suggest 3M 5200.

I am currently researching for a college assighnment on the same subject i have spent 2 days looking for information and carnt find anything. Neoprene is one of the best rubbers suitable for sea water as all wet suits are manufactured from this

Neoprne is mfg in a variety of densities and would be first choice as keel bolt seal under large washer.

AS NO material is really flat the Neoprene will take out many of the surface imperfections and allow the load to be spread over the entire washer surface.

Neoprene is excellent on GRP boats to bed any high stress fitting , cleats , anchor retrival gear , anything subject to different loads from different directions.

Use the stiff stuff, just thick enoulgh to take care of surface irregularities or unflatness ..

Boat material

Hi alice,
Am I right in saying that this a college project? And is this college very protected? I am doing the same as you and am just putting as much information into search engines. Alternativaly you can find a company which sells washers or manufactures them and ask them if they can send you a catologue??

keel bolt washers

Dont worry about finding specific sites relating to the washers because there arn't any. I have spent over 25 hrs researching the same thing and have come to the conclusion that the materials used are dependant soley on the individual and the structure of the boat. A washer is not nesersarraly used but instead a large plate is inserted inside the hull with an additional epoxy resin sealent used to secure the hole and any imperfections around the surface area of the plate. If u are still strugling get back in touch ps research chemical compatability sites with a ref to rubber in salt water (brine)
