Strenghts of Materials

Guys i found this fantastic site

http://www.matweb.com/index.aspx

it gives TONS of info on different materials, their properties and composition

This is the best tool that i have come across for the boat builder, to get a grip on comparing strenghts of glass fibre, carbon, kevlar, steel etc.

here is a good page

http://www.matweb.com/search/DataShe...3bfdbec937489f

it pays to register (for free) and dig around

Would also be good to have a copy of Marks' Mechanical Engineers Handbook also. That one is more expensive than the one you mention but has encyclopedic information.

Have you checked the American Bureau of Shipping Sites?

That was a good you provided, I bookmark it

http://www.eagle.org/eagleExternalPo...es_guides_book

It provide Mechanical Properties Data for Steel, Aluminum, and Fiber Reinforced Plastics.

Also, provides Scantlings for the different materials.

And tons of other information

Another book I recommend is Dave Gerr's The Elements of Boat Strength for Builders, Designers, and Owners; International Marine; Camden, ME; 2000
