Landlubber, perhaps it was I who started drink to early before taking photos

FYI, this little guy is the 7 year old son of my grinderman Fanie (no, the other Fanie) and I thought using him I could make Waratah bigger - naughty me

This little chap is what we call here a pikanien, and he does his kind justice - neat suit, hair nicely comb and of course that real African tekkies on his feet they will actually kill for....and had so many times

Beers in cockpit or out of it, that's a really smooth build you have going there.
I am amazed at how quickly you are building the boat. You have the true eye of a craftsman. Congratulations!

Please continue to post as much information as possible, because you are the only proper "live" build, as far as I can see here on the forum at present.

Best regards,

Perry

Wynand,

In the US, you'd be hauled into court for false advertising. That "Amateur...." headline on your website is false. There is no defense. You and your crew are true professionals.

Wonderful work, congratulations.

Wynand please post us some pics even if it is the same thing from a different angle.

We rely on you for our regular fix

Besides the fact that you are doing a sterling job i think it is the only sane thing happening at our country at present.

Hope you are well

since you ask Manie, here are a few more.

Things are going slower due to the fact that this centre cockpit has fancy deck with round conical corners all over the place and everything is curved and curved and are hand formed. At this stage the deck is all plated up except for the bulwark coamings and the transom and the companionway garage still to be fitted. Then it is the tedious job of cutting and framing of all deck hatches etc etc.
Welding has already started in the cockpit area.

BTW, I am well and your Castles are already on the ice awaiting your visit when you are healed well enough to drive to the good old Free State Sterkte

Wynand, thanks that fridge is very inviting.

Boy o boy this looks good, i have posted this pic above my braai so when i sit with a beer in hand, grilling steak, i stare and stare. I am sure that stranded mariner and his friends are doing exacly the same thing on the other side of the planet. When i showed all these pics to my mates at the dam you wont believe that they were all like little schoolboys over an icecream. When i told them that i am going to visit you within the next month they nearly shat themselves. This project has the well wishes of many more people than what you could imagine - fantastic isnt it!

Stranded mariner should try to do a diary - something like Bill and El did http://www.geocities.com/bill_fiero/
it makes fantastic reading for all.

Man i cant wait
Cheers to you and the gang

Wynand, by the way, where are you going to fit that drinks cabinet? I like it, but could not find it on Dudley's plans.

Guess I need yet a bigger house bank.

Andreas, it is stocked with the best reds my country can offer and eager awaiting your next visit and to be enjoyed by us (at least one bottle KWV Reserve of your choice in the cockpit of WARATAH)

For Manie's visit soon, it will be loaded with SA's best brew as promised to him. Wish I could share with all my good friends here at BDN. The following comes to mind; Charlie, Landlubber, Westlawn, Perry, Joop (Yipster), Masalai, Deepsix, Guillermo, Messabout...and all the others I failed to mention

Wynand, I am looking forward to that!
Also my stock of 'biltong' is in desperate need of a refill.

I am still planning for middle of May to come to South Africa, after my father (who will be visiting me in Shanghai has left. Can't wait!

I posted some updates on 'Waratah' on my blog:
http://strandedmariner.wordpress.com/dix-43-waratah-2/

Meanwhile my father is visiting me in Shanghai. We were away doing some sightseeing around Shanghai over the long May holiday weekend. Having a great time. I also fixed my flights to South Africa. Will arrive on May 26 now.
