stitch n glue Pelican?

I like the design and proven seaworthiness of the San Francisco Pelican. However, the jig lumber cost and time in construction discourage me from building the boat. Can anyone recommend a similar rugged small boat in a more modern building style. Someone talented could make a good living developing such as I believe the Pelican design will continue to attract sailors.
