Steryofoam

ok check this. i live near a lake, that my buuddy owns. its a man made lake, like 10 feet tops at the very bottom.

we're having a discussion about something, and i think im going to get it if i can ever find it. ive been googling for about an hour now, with no luck, thought maybe yall could help me.

were wanting a 20"x20"x2" ( meaning ... 20 foot by 20 foot, 2 foot thick )
piece of steryofoam. we need it to be made of this so that we can make holes for the poles of the llights. Were going to hook it up, but im having trouble finding the large piece of foam. it needs to be one piece, max 2, but if they are 2 sheets, they need to be 20x20x1. We were figuring if perhaps we did need 2 sheets they should both be the same size, only cut in half in thickness. hence the 20x20x1.

Ive emailed a couple of boating places with hope that they would know where i should search next.

Please if any of you can help, please do so. Due to my hectic lifestyle, i may not get back to this forum for a few days, but if anyone has any info that may help, please contact me @ ... fiercethoughts@yahoo.com / or / AIM: junglistncogneto /or / YIM:fiercethoughts.

thanks.
-Drew

I don't think you will be able to find those sized sheets. Here is a suggestion, laminate up your block from many sheets with the seams overlapped. Using plain Styro would not be prudent, as it DOES absorb water. You need a closed cell foam to prevent this.

... see is was thinking something that size would be hard to find. you think i could plywood onto steyrofoam blocks?

i remember a while ago, on the altoona lake, the dock was afloat by big blocks like that.
do you think like 10 or so blocks would work if plywood was atop of it?

4Nication,

If you're just looking to make a floating platform on the cheap, you could just build a wooden platform and stick a few old 55 gallon drums under it, this is only one of many possibilites, so use your imagination! There are also several companies that make docks in all sizes ready for assembly.

Look up a Styrofoam insulation contractor. Or web search Dow Corning for a contractor . A contractor can spray the piece in one shot at any density or shape right at the lake. No sweat job. Have all your equipment assembled and wired and he will foam all of it right in. Enjoy.
