Statistics about seas worldwide

It is well known that when someone designs a boat, ship, etc, has in his mind , from the start of the design process, the seas that the boat will operate.

My question, is how can anyone find out about the conditions (wave height, lenght, etc) that take place in different seas in the world?

Is there a site that contains such information?

there are a variety of sources for global wave statistics. Some of your colleagues should know at your school of Nav.Arch.

The Book Oceanography and Seamanship http://www.amazon.com/Oceanography-S.../dp/0870334344 is an excellent work that combines the authors profession of oceanography with his sailing. It is well worth any sailor or naval architect reading it as it provides a 'sideways' look at the combination of the two subjects. Lots of data within, that can assist your quest.

I don't remember the name but does exist a book concerning all waves observations (height, direction..) in all areas of the world.

The observations are carried out using boys overall in the sea and all results are plotted as significant waves height.
