| Spreader lengths Thanks to Yades' great spread sheet I have confirmed my laboriously hand calculated rigging loads but playing what if raises a question that I find no answer for. If the top spreader is to long the bisected angle to D4/V3 narrows and compression on the spreader goes up so the top of the mast bends to windward closing up the main sail. If it is to short the angle of D4 to the mast gets smaller and tension on the shroud goes up. How do you find a happy medium assuming there is one?
Is there a general rule of thumb for the relationship of the spreader lengths that I can start with? |
