When you say "fast" do you have a more exact speed range in mind?

Is your decision 100% made in favor of outboards?

How many passengers?

Dear friends, thank you for your colaboration.
I'm looking for a catamaran design with this features:
About 30x13 feet.
3/4 cabined
outboard motors
for about 20 passengers
cruising speed over 20 knots
spartan comfort, aircraft-style interior
Will be a tourist transfer on an ecotourism environment making daytours and charters in chilean Patagonia.
Sailing conditions are windy gulf, channels and fyords.
Project have to be a low initial investment.
Partners for the project are welcomed.

Only `cause I've been investigating along similar lines - a 40-passenger pontoon boat/cat... But the design I'm thinking of is for more of a private ferry service, along a regular 1-mile route, sheltered waters.

Just wanted to talk outboards and propulsion systems... Some of the electric outboards are becoming more powerful now, if you can carry the batteries, solar panels, etc, are alongside cheap shorepower for periods of time, etc.

Vetus has a larger electric outboard in development, as well as a hybrid inboard diesel engine/electric motor.

I'm *fascinated* with what Solomon Technologies have got, with their (inboard) "Electric Wheel" concept:

I'm interested in a craft for sheltered waters, where the speed limit is only 6kts anyway, so it makes the electric option look more viable (although the standing speed record for an electric boat is 51kts I believe, and that was set some years ago)

i am a naval architect with multiple passenger vessel designs under my belt, as my company, Bristol Harbor Group, Inc., designs both commercial vessels and yachts. i've also been to punta arenas, and hiked around the torres del paine (which was nothing short of amaizing) when i served as an inspector of the US oceanographic fleet, which included an ice breaker located in punta arenas. and the wine....oh the wine.

with that said, i'm facinated with your project. why a cat? are the conditions good for a small cat like this? if so, i'd love to talk with you more about the project. i don't have a design that i can take off the shelf to meet your needs, but it is a reasonable extrapolation of some of our designs.
